Nudge 17

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself.” Philippians 2:3

Selfish: lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one’s own profit or pleasure.

How in the world do you NOTHING out of selfishness? It is even possible?
Maybe that old adage that says “how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time”. Maybe this applies here except you conquer selfishness one person at a time.
If we look at others around us -from family to strangers- and put them before us, treat them as brothers and sisters in Christ, look at them with the love Christ has for us- it will definitely change our perspective. It will change the decisions we make, even small ones. When we stop thinking of ourselves first- it can’t help but to change the world- at least our perspective of it.
How would God want you to treat the people around you? Maybe it’s not so hard to do this after all. What if we intentionally did this one person at a time. One encounter at a time. One smile at a time. One phone call at a time. One text at a time…
With all the nastiness and selfishness in this crazy world a little selflessness might go a long way. I think it’s worth a shot.
