Nudge 19

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2
Seriously, this verse sounds so nice but it is so difficult to apply. It should be second nature to all of us, especially those who claim to love Jesus as their Lord and Savior. But this is hard. Be completely humble and gentle. Be patient…BEARING WITH ONE ANOTHER IN LOVE.
This doesn’t mean getting fed up with someone near us and removing ourselves from their presence. This means not only LOVING them while they might be on our last nerve, but sticking around too. This means sticking around when the work gets nasty and muddy and gross. It means standing with someone who might not deserve it. It might mean swallowing our own opinion. Being there for someone who needs us. Praying for someone who may have betrayed your trust.
I believe this requires a lot of wisdom. I don’t mean knowledge of the situation. I mean wisdom. Wisdom is knowing God has the situation under control. Wisdom is doing my part believing God is in it. Wisdom is being available to do whatever God puts in front of you to do while not knowing why or how or when.
We are commanded to bear with one another in love. It’s not request or a suggestion. It’s a command. He doesn’t often command us to do easy things. He commands us to do hard things. Sometimes people are difficult to love. We are to stand with them. Love them. Because God said so.
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2
