Psalm 23:2: “He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters.”
In verse 1 of the Psalm, David is saying he is one of the flock. God is his shepherd. David is safe in His care. His needs are met. Now in verse 2 we are to understand that God the Father is not only meeting our physical needs but our emotional needs as well. He is allowing rest for us. We are given peace and safety in our Father’s presence. “Beside quiet waters.” What a beautiful picture. He doesn’t lead us to the roaring raging loud powerful river. He brings us to the restful, quiet, still waters. Water, or refreshment is nearby. It’s accessible. This verse seems to represent peace and calm in our crazy world. God is our rest and refreshment. He offers peace in His presence. He helps us regain our strength and our focus.
I often forget that I have this place of rest. So often I long to rest and regroup and all I have to do is go to my Father. He offers this all the time. His presence is where I want to dwell.
