December 1st-God is LOVE

For the 25 days leading up to Christmas I am focusing on the many attributes of God. My hope is that together we can stop, be still and focus on our great and awesome God. He deserves our praise and adoration. Walk with me in awe as we praise Him each day for the many amazing attributes that describe our Lord.

December 1

God is love
I John 4:7-11 “ Dear Friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear Friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

From Genesis through Revelation the Bible speaks of the love God has for mankind. Much of what we do in life is founded in Love. God is the origin of love. He is the example of love. God is the source of love. Without Him we would not know love. With Him we can know love. Only with Him can we truly show love.
God showed us the purest most sacrificial love when He sent His son into the world as a baby. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. Because of our sin we were separated from God. Jesus came as a baby, lived a perfect, sinless life. He died on a cruel cross and was buried. Then on the third day He rose again to live eternally. Jesus alone is the reason we can be in relationship with God the Father, the author of love.

We cannot fathom the depths of the love God has for us, His children. Dwell on this today, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 is a verse we are all familiar with but we often forget the powerful message of this verse. God loves us so much.

It doesn’t get bigger than this. How much should the fact of God’s love change the way we live our lives?

“Dear Friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.”
