God is Sovereign
The definition of sovereign speaks of a great powerful ruler. In the way that God is our Sovereign ruler, yes, He is a great and powerful ruler, but He rules with love. He wants the best for us. He has ultimate control over all that is created. When you picture a peasant bowing in fear before a sovereign ruler, trying not to offend, fearful of a severe punishment…this is not our God. Our God rules in love, complete control, yet full of mercy.
“The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.” Psalm 103:19
In His Sovereignty, God can do anything He sees fit. He has complete reign over all of His creation.
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
This is such an amazing promise because it not only demonstrates that the all-powerful, all knowing, all powerful God loves you and me but it shows that He is the only One who can make and keep that promise! The promise itself proves God’s sovereignty.
Think of this: Because God is a Sovereign God and He loves you, nothing will happen in your life that didn’t first pass through His hands. Whatever you are faced with, God not only is allowing it, He is with you in it. He will not leave you.
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,” Ephesians 3:20
