I have been a soccer mom for many years. I love watching my kids play soccer or any sport for that matter. I am their biggest fan. There have been many hours of waiting at practice and shuffling to games and tournaments. One day in particular, I will never forget. Keaton and Sidney’s practice overlapped at the same fields. Keaton had finished practice and we were waiting for Sidney to finish. We had about 45 minutes of down time. It was a gorgeous Spring day and we just parked at the field with the windows open (partly because soccer players tend to smell bad.) Keaton was doing his homework and I was probably reading. I had this Garman GPS that I lived by. I get lost constantly so this GPS was very important to me. It was always in the van but not always on. So, picture this: the van was off for at least an hour. We are quietly sitting in the middle of a parking lot, which was basically another grassy field. Keaton and I hadn’t spoken a word for probably 15 or 20 minutes. Out of the literal blue the GPS says, “RECALCULATING. PLEASE RETURN TO THE ROUTE.” “RECALCULATIING. PLEASE RETURN TO THE ROUTE.” We both jumped because it abruptly broke the silence. We looked at each other, like, “Did that just happen?” We quickly decided that the GPS was possessed and needed to be discarded…not really because I needed the crazy thing too much.
It was hilarious and strangely scary at the same time. So often in our lives we are peacefully going along and doing our thing. We are focused and determined and content and BAM! Suddenly our GPS goes crazy and our path changes. Life makes us do a 180 and we are confused, shocked and unsure where we are headed. This is life. It is unrelenting. Life is all about change and upheaval. BUT! We have the best GPS ever! Our amazing God is going to guide and direct us.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says it so well, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” He WILL guide and protect us. He does not promise to remove the obstacle, but we make a way around it, or over it, or through it. He will make our path straight.
Life will RECALULATE. Just make sure you are in tune with your Father and He will guide you. Draw close to Him.
